A brownfield is property not realizing its full commercial or utilitarian potential.  This is from a variety of reasons such as environmental contamination from prior uses of the property, or from the enormous costs of cleaning a property to make it useful for other uses.

Brownfields are defined as land and buildings attached to the land.

The Tuscola County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority is a volunteer board that has been formed to review certain properties that are not realizing the location’s full potential with an eye toward creating jobs, spur economic development, and develop these local Tuscola County properties to advance a better quality of life.

With all the talk of finding Green solutions today, the Tuscola County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority works with the United States Environmental Protection Agency to identify eligible properties .  Our local Brownfield Redevelopment Authority administers two $200,000 grants for sites hazardous substances and petroleum contamination, such as solvents, paints, degreasers and petroleum-based products.
